Upper School

At Grove, we prepare students for life after upper school. Our students are trained to think critically as well as creatively. Our focus is on helping students discover and appreciate their unique gifts and talents by providing an environment where students are accepted and feel safe. Biblical applications are incorporated into every subject, every day, and our students see these principles expressed in the actions of their teachers and mentors. Our teachers incorporate opportunities for learning – specialized projects, competitions, field trips – to help challenge students and make learning more interactive. With two diploma options for all levels of learners, there is something for everyone at GCS.

College Readiness:

College readiness occurs throughout  the four years our students are in Upper School. We are committed to preparing students for the direction God is leading them after graduation.

College readiness begins with class selection freshman year. Sophomore year, students start to receive targeted information about post-graduation opportunities. This includes individual meetings and class meetings to discuss interests, options, and opportunities. PSAT’s are taken every October during sophomore and junior year to provide practice and preparation for the SAT’s.

Sophomores and juniors attend a Christian College Fair that exposes them to various Christian colleges throughout the country. College materials are available that include college planning and financial aid resources. Students are also able to meet with visiting college representatives here at Grove and ask questions. As students make personal decisions about career goals, we coach them through college applications, personal essays, financial aid deadlines, and scholarship opportunities until students have completed the college application process and been offered acceptance.

Dual Enrollment

Grove offers various dual enrollment classes through Liberty University and Regent University. A dual enrollment class allows students in 11th and 12th grade the ability to earn college credit while simultaneously earning high school credits. Providing academically rigorous coursework allows each student to build a strong work-ethic, build upon their reading proficiency, analytical skills and higher-order thinking skills while still being able to seek immediate help as needed. There can be a cost to families to participate in dual enrollment classes.

Technology

Technology is integral to upper school education. Students use digital tools to further develop their skills for college and career planning. It’s a platform used in the classroom for student engagement and collaboration. Students have opportunities for on-line learning in upper school. At Grove, we make sure that technology devices are safe with website filtering in place in every classroom.

Outreach

Grove students are faithful in service, both locally and globally. School-wide initiatives include collecting food items for local food pantries, filling boxes for Operation Christmas Child, packing toiletry bags for homeless shelters, creating fundraisers for cancer support programs, and collecting gloves and socks for inner-city children. Upper school students have the opportunity to participate in an annual mission trip through the Go Impact program organized by the International Mission Board. Throughout the year, as students serve in our building, in our neighborhood, and in our city, they learn what it means to give of themselves and share the love of Christ.

Grove 24/25

“It is a privilege to teach the next generation of artists at Grove Christian School with a Biblical worldview. Teaching the students that the purpose of art is to glorify God challenges the reason for their creativity and what they create. It’s a joy to teach them the skills and techniques behind the creativity to make wonderful art and in the process, encourage growth in their faith in Jesus Christ. I pray that the results are honoring to the Lord and that the art classes at Grove produce many Christian artists that impact our world for Christ.”

– Carol Jones, Bible and Art Teacher
